Last Friday, we ran our 5th and last ever Games Exchange with Aotearoan gamedevs and their games. While it’s the last event in Sydney, the Auckland event is upcoming at the end of the month (more details at the end of this blog)!

It’s a little bittersweet, but we’re proud and humbled to have hosted these events for both local and international devs over the past two years! As we wind up the Sydney editions of the Games Exchanges, here’s a summary of the night!
Here’s the lineup of Aotearoan games we showcased, as well as the Aussie games we’ve sent off:

As with past Games Exchanges, the lovely folks at Redfern Community Center welcomed us back for the night! This time, the games on showcase were curated by our friends from Auckland Makes Games, our partners for this exchange. Here’s a video they made to introduce their lovely selves and all the games they sent us!
After quick introductions from Reuben about the event, all attendees were then invited to try out the games we had received, as well as an assortment of Aotearoan snacks and drinks. Christine prepared a lovely spread of Lolly cakes, Ambrosia, Marmite sandwiches and other goodies, letting Sydneysiders enjoy a taste of the local fare from our neighbours.
Here’s some cool photos of the night, courtesy of Chere!

Our events have always had a mix of devs in industry, students, people from the country we’ve exchanged with, and people simply interested in games. We’re glad to be able to host a diverse group of attendees, all under the banner of appreciating creative indie games and the people who make them!

Lastly, we wanted to give a shout out to all the people helping to make the Games Exchange run as smoothly as they do! Thank you Chris for lending us a laptop last minute, Chere for her beautiful photographs (as usual!) and Aiden for always assisting us with our events! We’d also like to thank Chad and the Screen Australia team, the Screen NSW team, and finally Jens and the cool folks from IGEA for always supporting our efforts to foster events and spaces for the indie gamedev community.

We’ll be writing in greater depth about the Games Exchange soon, but until then, the Aotearoan event is coming soon! Our friends from Auckland Make Games will be showcasing the incredible lineup of Aussie games at Media Design School, Auckland, on the 30th of May! Event details here.
Thanks again for being a part of our events, we hope you had a good time and got to know a bunch of cool new games!
